Reciting poems in praise of the Holy Imams (as) and Imam e Zamana (afts)
1) Imam Ja'fare' Sadiq (as) said, "Whoever recites a
poem in our praise, then Allah will grant him a house in paradise."
(Wasael-ush-Shiah, volume 10, page 467, tradition no. 1)
2) In another tradition on this subject, Imam Sadiq (as)
says, "No person can recite a poem in our praise till the time he is
helped (in this action) by Ruh'ul Qudus."

3) Imam Reza (as) said, "Whoever narrates our virtues
through his poems, Allah will grant him a house in paradise, the size of which
will be 7 times the size of this earth. All the close angels of Allah and His
prophets will visit this house to meet the poet."

4) Kumayt ibne Zaydaldi says "I presented myself before
Imam Baqir (as) and he (as) said to me, O Kumayt! If I had the wealth of this
world, I would have presented you with a large portion of it. Anyway, I repeat
those words for you which the Holy Prophet (saw) said to Hessan ibne Saabit -
'till the time you recite your poems in our favour, Ruh'ul Qudus will help
you.'"

collected are pertaining to eulogy of Imam Mahdi(A.F.). This book makes a good
reading for a person who has excellent command over Arabic and also has a good
taste for poems. For others who have good command over Arabic but do not have
the necessary appetite for poems so as to comprehend them, it is recommended
that they at least read a few selected poems for the purpose of receiving
rewards from the All-Mighty (S.W.T.).

This book is dedicated to the lyric verses in the
praise of Imam Mahdi(A.S.). This book is an excellent source for those who have
a poetic taste and background. It is an apparent fact that those who are not
very much related to the field of poem they would not be able to utilize this
book. This book can be excessively useful for those who understand the poetic
language and would like to create and enhance positive emotional feelings for
the Imam(A.S.). In fact, a shia should treasure such things which brings him
closer to the threshold of Imam(A.S.) both intellectually and emotionally. The
quality of pages used in this book is excellent. The background graphic
imprinted on each page soothes the eyes. The quality of page and print and the
graphic together makes the reading a good experience. Of course the spirit for
enjoying the reading is that the poems are in eulogy of Imam Mahdi(A.S.).
Poetry and phrases about Mahdi a.s. In Sunni's book Reference :
The author of yanabi-ul-muwadda, on page 438 has attributed a
poem to Amir-ul-mumineen ali (a.s.) where hazrat says (to imam hussein): 'o
Hussain! when you shall find yourself alien in some place, associate yourself
with its habit and custom! as if i see my soul and my children in karbala and
its battle scene. our beards will be dyed with blood just as the dress of a
bride gets dyed. i see that calamity but not with my naked eye. the key of its
worth has been given to me. may allah grant a good given to me. may allah grant
a good reward to our 'qaem' who is the upholder of justice'
O hussain ! qaem shall seek revenge for my blood. rather he
shall seek revenge for your blood too. so be patient upon your hardship and
suffering '
On page 439. of the same book, he narrates from Imam Ali-ibn-abi
talib (a.s.) the following poem:
'May allah shower this mercy and divine grace upon that valiant imam who shall
make the army divisions of the polytheists object with his victorious sword. he
shall manifest this religion on every part of land and will disgrace the
polytheist oppressors. i have not spoken these words out of pride and vaunt.
rather it has been given to me by the chosen one of al-e-hashim.
Again, in the same book, on page 454 he narrates the famous
lines from de'bel khuza'ee who recited it before imam reza (a.s.). he quotes
de'bal as saying: i recited my ode till i came upon this part: 'the emergence
of the imam who shall rise in the name of allah and his blessings is
inevitable. he shall distinguish the truth and falsehood for us and reward the
virtuous and punish the evil.'
Imam reza (a.s.) shed tears and then said: 'o de'bel, the
trusted spirit has spoken through your tongue....
In vol. 3, chapter 366 of 'al-fotuhat -ul makkiyah' we see the
following poem: 'know that the last of the saints shall be martyred and the
light of universe shall become extinguished. he is the Mahdi, al-e-muhammad. he
is like the hindi sword, a destroyer. he is the sun's rays which brightens
every cloud and the darkness. he is the first drop of rain which bestows
munificence and bounty.
The author of 'yanabi-ul-muwadda' narrates on page 416 a poem
from the book 'durrul-maknun' of mohiyuddin Arabi. it is as follows: 'when time
shall move ahead by means of the letters of 'bismillah', Mahdi shall emerge.
after keeping fast, he shall emerge from the ka'aba. send greetings to him on
my behalf.
Muhammad-ibn-thalha shafa'ee says in 'matalib-us-su'ool' as
such: [in the twelfth chapter while giving account of abul-qasim muhammad-ibn-hassan-ibn-ali-ibn-muhammad-ibn-ali-ibn
musa-ibn-jafar-ibn-muhammad ibn ali-ibn hussein-ibn ali-ibn-abi talib that he
is the 'Mahdi', 'hujjat' 'khalaf-e-saleh' and 'muntazar'.] he is the successor
and 'hujjat' (proof) who has been approved by allah. moreover, allah has guided
him on the true path and given him his temperament and raised his status. allah
has bestowed upon him the ornament of his grace and he too has put on the dress
of virtue.
The holy prophet (s.a.w.a.) has said something which has been
narrated for us and the one who becomes aware of the prophet's saying will
comprehend its meaning. a learned person knows that news about the signs of
Mahdi (a.s.) has come and the holy prophet (s.a.w.a.) has revealed the name,
lineage and qualities of Mahdi. suffice it is to mention the saying of the holy
prophet (s.a.w.a.) who said: 'the light on Mahdi's face will be from my light.
the one whose place of care is zahra (a part of his own self)., none shall
receive a position similar to the position which i have bestowed upon Mahdi.
then, the onewho says that , he is the Mahdi has spoken the truth.
Apart from what we have written, there are yet other poems in
persian and arabic which anyone investigating into them will become
enlightened. the author of 'yanabi-ul-muwadda' has narrated many such poems
like the poems of shaikh ahmad jaami, shaikh athar naishabouri, shaikh
jamaluddin rumi and others. however what we have narrated is adequate.
Some of the poets Name in history of Islam who recited
couplets and praise ahlebait a.s. With thiers poems :
Kumayt
The poet of Ahle Bayt (a.s), Kumayt bin Zaid Asadi had faith
in His Eminence, Imam Mahdi (a.s) and it was a part of his religious belief.
This faith of his was due to the training of the Purified Imams (a.s) as he was
a contemporary of theirs.
The following is one of his couplets:
“When the truth shall be established among you.
When your second Mahdi will rise up.”
Dibil Khuzai
This poet was having a firm and a deep-rooted faith in His
Eminence and he considered it a necessary principle of Islamic belief. He
composed and recited poetical compositions in the presence of Imam Ali Reza
(a.s) that impressed the Holy Imam (a.s) a great deal.
He composed the following couplets:
“Then if it had not been what I desire for today or
tomorrow.
Any heart would have broken in the grief of your signs.
Advent of an Imam whose advent is imminent.
He will move with the name of God and with bounties.”
Imam Ali Reza (a.s) glanced towards Khuzai and said, “The
Holy Spirit (Ruh al-Qudus) has spoken through your tongue. Do you know who this
Imam is ?”
He replied, “No, I have only heard that an Imam from among
you shall reappear and fill the earth with justice and equity…”
His Eminence, Imam Ali Reza (a.s) said, “O Dibil! Indeed,
the
Imam after me is my son, Muhammad and after him his son, Ali
and after Ali his son, Hasan and after Hasan his son, Hujjat (Proof) and the
Qaim (One who rises). And he is the one who shall be awaited during his
concealment and when he reappears, he shall be obeyed and he shall fill the
earth with justice and equity like it would have been filled with injustice and
inequity. But when shall he arisea This news is from the time when I heard
through my father from his forefathers, that the Holy Prophet (a.s) said, ‘He
is like the Hour, that would come all of a sudden and no one has any
information about it.’”
Sayyid Himyari
One of the prominent poets and followers of Ahle Bayt (a.s)
is Sayyid Himyari who composed poems in praise of His Eminence, Ali (a.s) and
the occultation of Imam Mahdi (a.s). His poem regarding the reappearance of His
Eminence, the Master of the Age is as follows:
“And in the same way we have narrated from the successors of
Muhammad
And none of us that has said it has any falsehood in it.”
Wurd bin Zaid
This poet, like Kumayt, was among the sincere followers of
the Imams of Ahle Bayt (a.s). He came to the presence of His Eminence, Imam
Muhammad Baqir (a.s) and recited a poem regarding His Eminence. And also in the
end he recited couplets about Imam Mahdi (a.s) as follows:
“When is the one going to be born in Samarrah, if it comes
to pass
That will be shinning like the shooting star
So much so that if the land of Iraq throws it to Hijaz, he
will stay at Ja’ja’”
It can be understood from these couplets that this poet has
already heard the traditions about Imam Mahdi (a.s) much before his holy birth.
And the saying of the Purified Imams is the saying of the
Messenger of Allah and it is the continuation of the knowledge of their great
grandfather. In these couplets he mentions the qualities of the Awaited Imam
that shall come together in that new born infallible after his birth.
Musab bin Wahab
Musab bin Wahab Nausajani was a contemporary of His
Eminence, Imam Ali Reza (a.s). His poetical compositions inform us about his
faith in the twelve Holy Imams, especially in the Awaited Imam (a.s) even
before he (the Imam) was born.
The following is one of his couplets:
“Then if he asks me what my religion is
Thus what I express is what I hide. (It is the same)”
These couplets tell us about the faith of Musab regarding
the Almighty Allah and the prophethood of the Messenger of Allah (a.s) who is
the greatest messenger of God and the twelve Holy Imams (a.s) who are the
vicegerents and successors of the Holy Prophet (a.s).

A poetry collection containing 140 pieces about Imam Mahdi
(12th Shia imam) has been published in Iran.
(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - According to Soreie Mehr
Publications, the pieces are compiled by Shirinali Golmoradi in 7 years in a
book entitled as What a Road.
The pieces are chosen from various poets including veteran
and emerging poets Gheisar Aminpour, Tahereh Safarzadeh and Ali Mousavi
Garmaroudi. Both new styles and traditional poetry styles are included in the
volume.
According to Golmoradi, the book is aimed at recognition of
literary features of anticipation poetry and introduction of active poets in
this regard.
THE INFALLIBLE IMAM MAHDI (A.T.F.S.)
AND ALLAMA IQBAL (R.A.)
Allama Iqbal was the thinker of Pakistan. He was a Barrister
(highest degree in law) from England and a Ph.D. from Germany. Although, a
Sunni Muslim, he had a deep love for the Noble Prophet (s.a.w.a.) and his Pure
Progeny. Consequently, he had written about the Awaited Savior of the world,
The Infallible Imam Mahdi (a.t.f.s).
Allama Iqbal had written many couplets about the Infallible
Imam Mahdi (a.t.f.s) in Urdu as well as in Persian. A selection of such
couplets is given below with English translation:
Dunya Ko Hai Us Mahdi-e-BarHaq Ki Zuroorat ,
Ho Jis Ki Nigah Zalzala-e-Aalam-e-Afkar
It is time that the expected Mahdi may soon appear on the
worldly stage ,
His piercing Glance in the realm of thought would cause a
violent storm to rage!
Kabhi Aiy Haqiqat-e-Muntazir Nazar Aa Libas-e-Majaz May,
Ke Hazarun Sajde Tarap Rahe Hain Meri Jabeen-e-Niaz May
O! Awaited Reality, reappear in human form ,
As thousands of my prostrations are waiting for respectful
bowing
Tarasti Hain Nigah-e-Narasa Jis Ke Nazare Ko,
Wo Raunaf Anjuman Ki Haiy Unhin Khilwat Guzinoon May
The impatient eyes are waiting to see,
The center of attraction may be anywhere among ourselves
Mere Aqa Ye Jahan Zair-o-Zabar Hone Ko Haiy,
Jis Jahan Ka Hai Faqat Teri Siyadat Par Madar
Life on earth has become deplorable and experiencing
upheavals,
And only your leadership can save it.
Nau-e-Insan Mazra-e-Tu Hasile,
Karvan-e-Zindagi Ra Manzile
The harvest of the human race is your personality and,
Mankind is anxiously waiting for your guidance.
Majzoob-e-Farangi Ne Ba Andaz-e-Farangi ,
Mahdi Ke Taqaiyyul Se Kia Zinda Watan Ko
The German poet Nitshe awakened the Germans,
By the thought of an awaited savior
Aiy Wo Ke Tu Mahdi Ke Taqiyyul Se Hai Bezaar,
Naumeed Na Kar Aahuu-e-Mushkin Se Khatan Ko
O Muslim scholar, who is fed up with the fact of
reappearance of Imam Mahdi,
Do not separate the deer from their habitat.
In the Glorious Qur’an Ayah 71: “On the Day when We call
every nation with their leader (Imam)….” According to this Ayah, there has to
be an Imam at every time on earth and that the earth will not be without
Hujjat.
Moreover there is a Tradition of the Noble Prophet (s.a.w.a.):
“Whoever dies without identifying the Imam of his time, will die as an
ignorant.
The Infallible Imam Ali (a.s.) said in Nahaj-ul- Balagha:
“The Noble Prophet (s.a.w.a.s.) informed me, Allah has favoured us, The Ahlul
Bayt, with seven persons, that He has not conferred on anyone before us, nor
will He bestow it on anyone after us, viz, In our family is the Messenger of
Allah, the chief of all Prophets and the seal of Prophethood. The Noble Prophet
(s.a.w.a.s.)’s successor Ali bin Abi Talib (a.s.), is more elevated than all
other successors. He is the beloved of Allah, more than all other successors.
His (s.a.w.a.s.) two grandsons, Hasan and Husayn, are the most excellent of
grandsons. Our martyrs enjoy a distinction higher than the other martyrs, i.e.
Hamza bin Abdul Muttalib, chief of all martyrs. Among us is the one who is
granted a pair of wings by Allah, so that he can soar along with the angels in
Paradise. He is Jafar bin Abi Talib. The Promised Qaim (Mahdi) is also from

It is time that the expected Guide
may soon appear on worldly stage;
His piercing glance in realm of thought

For the hate in this world, is inflicting disaster,
On my brothers and sisters, from Palestine to Iraq,
You are their key, to freedom’s unlock.
Oh my Imam (as), the liars mock me,
Saying one can’t be helped, by who they can’t see,
My dear guide, my dear leader; show them they’re wrong,
Please end this separation, it’s unbearably long.
You are the teacher, of God’s (SWT) words and His love
You are the deputy, sent from above,
The servant of Allah (SWT), the student, the
friend,
From his last messenger (SAW), you nobly descend.
Oh my sinless Imam (as), I would die for your cause,
For your sake I would crawl into death’s hungry jaws,
I wish to be there, when you call those who believe,
I want to fight in your army, against those who deceive.
Please teach me the ways, to be a servant like you,
Who loves and fears God (SWT); who is pure-hearted and true,
I long for your presence, each day and each night;
You are the guide, to the path that is right,
Please lead me on it, my heart is contrite,
For you’re the purest of pure, with Nu’ur you are
bright.
The world is in need, of you to reveal,
The pure, soulful truth, that no evil conceals,
My Imam (as) please come soon, to deepen the light,
Of the truth of The God (SWT), with your conviction and
might.

If I knew why I write

Upon ebullient breaths of dawn
You greeted my pen one morn
I write because it’s seen your soul

With the flow of ink
Steady and thick
A little twist and turn here
Into letters forming what I think
Reflected in these letters is a portrait
Underneath the paint a tangle of confusion

As if I’ve birthed a thousand stars
Yet darkness surrounds me everywhere
I offer you my self portrait
So you may consider my soul
Knowing I can only reach you through words

What if you were a boat sailing into my imagination
Sailing so deep you collided with the rocks of reality
What if the figments of my imagination are shadows of what’s

What if the Mahdi appears in us?
Standing against the wall of our hearts
Before he appears against that cubic wall
What if the second coming is the return of the light we were
born with?
Unshackling our souls so we may help unshackle the world
I begin to float on the breeze of understanding
Knowing with every heartbeat there’s an echo of your
footsteps down the hallway
Of time
But here I am, still broken
Falling between these cracks hiding
Flying dreams from land to land
In-between where mountains stand
With words offering my hand
To be taken away with you…

In The Anticipation
Of The Dawn
You are called 'The Hidden Imam' because
you are out of sight, not that you are not present,
Being hidden, in the sense that one is not present,
is an unjust calumny. Those who believe in
it fail to see the difference between Advent and Presence.
Your arrival, for which we are ardently waiting,
refers to your advent, not your presence.
Your advent will be a great marvellous occurance,
because your devout lovers have felt the
very pleasure of the long-awaited Imam (as),
On Fridays, they long for your arrival more
restlessly, and face the Quibla to humbly supplicate
the Author of the universe for His favor to
allow your advent come to pass soon.
And now, we, for whom you are the object of
love and devoutness and the torch for our noctural
mystic travelling, hum and hymm for waiting for your advent.
